I've always been inspired by the beauty of unique places, different countries, and new landscapes and perspectives. The history and maritime feel of Cape May, New Jersey inspired my most recent book. A love of words in multiple languages keeps me writing; it's as if I can't not write. The natural world, in particular, nurtures the creative process in me. I love to walk among the live oaks dripping with Spanish moss or along a sun-splashed shoreline letting characters live and grow in my mind.
Work as a reporter, technical writer, columnist, copywriter, and university instructor have honed my writing skills. I'm delighted to be in a place in life where I can create the time and space for fiction.
Writing is discipline, no doubt. But writing is also about a community of readers willing to share of themselves and their own journeys. With courage, we can forge connections, find common ground, and explore the together. Writing may be a solitary practice, but it is a collective art form: I need and love my readers!
Giving back means everything to me, so I donate all proceeds from my writing to worthy causes in the communities in which my novels are set.
